Beginning
at 10:00 AM Pacific Time / 1:00 PM Eastern Time on March 9, 2015, Apple's
"Spring Forward" media event in San Francisco releases us the final
details about the brand new 12-inch Retina MacBook which is another
revolutionary upgrade since the debut of the Retina MacBook Pro in 2012.
Never call it an
upgrade of MacBook Air at all if you are not clearly certain for the new design
delivered by the new generation device. It’s simply called the new MacBook, coming
with a 12-inch retina screen, 13.1mm thick and only 2 pounds. Now let’s see
what the incredibly thinnest and lightest laptop looks like.
Aesthetic design
The new MacBook
has a 12-inch screen, which joins Apple's Retina display family with a stunning
2304 x 1440 resolution. The all-metal unibody aluminum chassis, comes in three
colors: silver, space gray, and, in Phil Schiller's words, "stunning
gold."
In order to fit
the thinness, Apple also re-engineered the keyboard. The new keyboard spans the
full width of the new MacBook and adopts a new "butterfly mechanism"
for internal structure. The surface area of each key expands by 17% to ensure the
stable and accurate input in the case of 40% thin, resulting in four times stability
increased. Of course, this keyboard is equipped with LED backlight feature.
The new overhauled
trackpad called “Force Touch”. It not only senses touch, but also pressure and
force. Through the built-in sensors in each corner it can detect the strength
of user's finger Touch upon its surface and then feedback to the user through
Taptic Engine with tactile vibration. Besides, Apple provides adjustment to
touchpad sensitivity according to the strength of different people.
In addition to
the amazing thin body and narrow frame, Apple introduced one reversible USB
Type C port for the first time in MacBook series. This one port handles
charging, video output, and data transport, due to the too concise fuselage
interface.
Retina Display
As expected, the
new machine adopted a 12 inch Retina display, 3 million pixels, and 13.1 mm thickness
of to make it the thinnest Retina MacBook currently. At the same time, compared
with other types of Mac, the new Retina display power consumption under the
same brightness consumes 30 percent less power than the previous.
Apple said,
thanks to Retina screen, all display effect will be in the form of more fresh,
delicate and clear whether reading email, writing text, editing HD family film
or embellished professional photography works, visual experience unparalleled.
Extended Battery Life
There is no fan
required as the computer will be powered by Intel's Core M Broadwell CPU which
features high performance and low power consumption. Battery life is promised
to offer "all-day" battery life with a 39.7-watt hour lithium-polymer
battery, which extends up to nine hours of web browsing or 10 hours of movie
playback.
